I think you should have modified the face, torso and emblems more since it still looks exactly like Voltron. They'd probably have a hard time actually getting this printed because of all the legal stuff they'd run into.
cannibal01 on May 4, 2012, 4:03 p.m.
I think the concept was good but agree that the robot wasn't changed up enough. The star belt and emblem on his chest are a dead give away that it's a modified Voltron sketch.
Numinous on May 4, 2012, 4:33 p.m.
It's believed that Voltron originally involved the Sesame Street characters, you know, to merge into a massive robot to fight childhood illiteracy. Then wouldn't you know it some wise guy thought lions would be cooler.

Awesome!
LadyMeerkat on May 5, 2012, 3:13 a.m.
It's several layers of awesome but yeah there might be a licensing issue [shrug]. There's enough new line work in it to make it a new artwork though.

This is so much win!

i love mashups and this is definitely one of the best ever!!!
evolveordie on May 7, 2012, 6:27 p.m.
i love it. though as said licensing might be an issue - i know the logic is out, but maybe a grover face inside the head.
And the base of your sketch is pretty much a trace/copy - google image search voltron and it's the second one.
Numinous on May 7, 2012, 7:08 p.m.
Funny stuff evolveordie. Copyrighted material is not allowed in submissions - and this was "accepted" - so the logic you cite as "out" is not very sound (see the rules).
Last I checked mash-ups usually involve a-typical pop-culture imagery and iconography; hence the humor. However, thanks for taking the time to Google "Voltron." While you're at it can you Google "How to heal rashes in the shape of Lake Eerie"? I can't seem to find the right ointment for the job.

carolinenotcoraline on May 9, 2012, 3:52 p.m.
Being "accepted" means nothing. There is an "accepted" design that has Snoopy in it. You don't think CTW or the Charles Schultz estate are gong to let that fly, do you?
Great design, but it will never get printed.
Numinous on May 9, 2012, 3:58 p.m.
fake accounts like "caroline" are always good for a giggle or two.
Numinous on May 9, 2012, 4:11 p.m.
I'm still waiting for that ointment to heal my rash in the shape of Lake Eerie. It's chaffing like a mother...

cool robot
carolinenotcoraline on May 10, 2012, 4:42 p.m.
I'm confused. Why is my account fake? Simply because I said your design wouldn't end up winning do to legal issues?
Numinous on May 10, 2012, 6:28 p.m.
Thanks for the support.
Caroline Fine on May 11, 2012, 10:01 a.m.
This is really cool. I'd love for the Megazord's face to be changed as well, though.
And I'm pretty sure Threadless prints t-shirts with licensed properties on them, for better or worse. The recent Star Wars competition is coming to mind.

great idea!!! Love it.
