Christchurch is estimated to be under construction for 10 years which is going to cost as much as $30 billion after the devastating earthquake of February 22. There is still a red zone, which used to be the busiest part of the city, forbidden to enter. As of today, it is reported that tens of thousands of Christchurch residents who left the city 3 weeks ago are slowly starting to come back to rebuild their lives and rebuild the city. And the authorities are warning: “If you get home and there is a red sticker on your house, it means it is believed to be unsafe.” Can you imagine?

What all these have to do with this t-shirt? The thing is, when it comes to raising funds for causes, we are interestingly lovely species. We impulse buy, and then we tend to sit back. Which is totally understandable. That’s why we wanted to create a t-shirt that would work for this cause continuously, even when the donator / funder who is wearing it is eventually sitting back.

This design gives total credit to the people who put the t-shirt on, by referring them as “Funders of Construction in Christchurch”. Not to show off, but to set an example. After all, they are the bricks, they are the cement of this construction. Every single cent counts. Even in $30 billion.

But also, as long as the t-shirt lasts, lets say for at least 10 years - if it is not tumbled dried or dry cleaned of course - it will always be there to remind others who come across with it that the construction in Christchurch is still on. And there is still a chance for them to be the funder of this long lasting development. Either by buying this t-shirt, or by any other way they can personally come up with.

Note: This design is created by Ayca Cavas & Suleyman Ozan Sari, both from Turkey, through Skype calls. Ayca lives in Kaikoura, two hours north of Christchurch, by car; and Ozan lives in Izmir, 29 hours away from Christchurch, by plane. If they win, they are planning to use every bit of the award money to buy “Funder Construction Christchurch” t-shirts through Threadless, to re-sell them in Kaikoura, and donate the total sales to Red Cross New Zealand. This seems to be a good way to double/triple the funds to be donated.
