GMO TIMEBOMB!
Created by Jared Rippy on Aug 09, 2011
"Preserve the former, dismantle the latter"
The former being naturally occurring crops, the latter GMO'S. GMO crops have spread uncontrolled throughout the biosphere and threaten to take over every unadulterated genome of most fruits and vegetables, none pose a bigger risk at this moment than the poster boy of GMO's, CORN. Genetically modified corn literally is a bomb that has already gone off in the natural world and we must act now to stop this dire trend and disarm any future threats.

This was my pick, it just made the most sense with a nice iconic graphic. I like the text as well, I hope this design wins!

this should win :)

This design seems like the overall best balance between relevancy and imagery out of the bunch. i'd buy it!
NeroG on Aug. 14, 2011, 4:38 p.m.
meh. A grenade doesn't really say 'No to GMO' especially without the text to help it. Nice design but not really for this campaign.
tabtab on Aug. 15, 2011, 10:05 a.m.
I disagree with NeroG, I think the grenade portrays how GMO corn has done its damage in a random unpredictable pattern much like the nature of a grenade throughout non-gmo crops and when you eat gmo's its like a ticking timebomb in your body. I agree with most of the comments that this design is clever, iconic, conceptual, and relevant. Seems the best so far.

i hate to be a jerk... but i've seen this design somewhere before: http://iquestionauthority.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/monsanto-s-gmo-corn-threatens.jpg
regardless, the placement and color usage is great! cool design!
Jared Rippy on Aug. 21, 2011, 10:19 a.m.
@Gracekaten
Similar concept, but the execution makes this a different design. It's not uncommon for creative minds to come up with similar concepts to represent an idea, but I think my design is different enough to not be called the same. I'm glad you like it though, thanks.
Thanks to everyone else as well!

It's a cool graphic, but I'm not sure I understand the "former, latter" reference. Help?
Jared Rippy on Aug. 24, 2011, 12:58 p.m.
Irthacker
A strict definition: former refers to the first of two things, latter to the second.
So in this case I am advocating the preservation of the original and the destruction of the counterfeit gmo. Food was made right the first time. Hope this helps, thanks!
cataloguebird on Aug. 24, 2011, 10:55 p.m.
well done!
lrthacker on Aug. 25, 2011, 7:37 a.m.
Ha, I knew the definitions (ego bruised!), just not how they applied here. Thanks for clarifying! Good luck!

Thanks to all the nice comments and to everyone that voted for me!!
staypuft80 on Aug. 29, 2011, 12:37 a.m.
to be honest, i don't feel like the two "halves" match from an illustration stand-point. the grenade is a little more "photo-real", while the corn part looks more like a road-construction style illustration. if the corn husk looked a little more realistic, it'd feel more unified. good idea (not the most original), but could use help with the execution.
huanglo90 on Aug. 29, 2011, 1:07 a.m.
i don't know, the tag-line makes sense if you read into it, but below the imagery, it makes me think the grenade should be preserved and the corn should be dismantled.
Jared Rippy on Aug. 29, 2011, 9:27 a.m.
@huanglo
I think it clearly shows it as a representation of the latter (a modified corn), having the tagline in quotes also differentiates it as a battle cry and not a literal tagline with the icon above it.
dobyblue on Feb. 22, 2012, 1:42 p.m.
I think it's very clear that the symbol represents a genetically altered corn-ear, and because of how dangerous genetic engineering is it's represented as a grenade. It's a pretty common juxtaposition.
I think the small writing underneath is a little redundant. The "SAY NO TO GMO" is perfect. Green, Red and White makes for a good t-shirt.
All you need is the "Millions Against Monsanto" logo and website on the back for people to visit for more info.
philbert85 on April 7, 2012, 8:05 p.m.
Great graphic, LOOKS great as a t-shirt design, and says all it needs to. without the "No to GMO" tag, it wouldn't transfer meaning to the average consumer who would decline to buy GMO food if labeled, but are not yet on the GMO consciousness bandwagon (the ones we want to win over). Also, not trendy or over-the-top.
